Rebuilding democracy starts from the bottom up. Too often, local panels and commissions selected by special interests bog down and become dysfunctional. Random Access Democracy is currently engaged in campaigning for better systems at local, non-legislative levels — neighborhood councils, COG advisory bodies. Next, we’ll advocate for better systems at local legislative levels: small city councils, COG councils. Ultimately, RAD will campaign for a revisioning of government by means of deliberative panels chosen by lot at state and national levels.
Policy making panels do not need to be composed of experts. When expert knowledge is required, panels of ordinary citizens can call on expert testimony, as electeds do.
